Back 2 School

The second semester has started back and there are several new students at Payap. School is going pretty well and I have one extra native speaker than last term. This past week I did a group project on the cultural differences of the countries in North America as it relates to business communication. I like working in a group because it always gives me a chance to get to know people I may not have known before. Unfortunately I am often the only native speaker of the group and students love to count on me to get most of the work done. This frustrates me sometimes, especially when I am working with people from several different cultures, but as I said before, oftentimes it gives me a chance to meet knew people.

Last semester we had Payap's Got Talent auditions (similar to the TV show) and a couple of weeks ago we watched the top 10 perform and we voted on the Top 3. It was interesting to see how even a talent contest was so unique and so 'international'. We had performances that ranged from bilingual love songs to an Islamic Art presentation. We also had people who played instruments, Ukrainian folk dancing and other talent related shows. Even the songs picked out showed the students' cultural diversity. The picture below shows a friend of mine, Cindy, playing a very popular Japanese song (like another American in the group, I didn't even know it was Japanese!).
