Thai Easter Service

Because the Thai New year starts next week, and many members would be gone, the church here decided to hold Easter services a week early. We went to a waterfall about an hour south of town I will show you step by step instructions of what you need to have wonderful Thai picnic.#1. You need a tarp:
For a big bunch of people you need a big tarp! We got to the scene early to set things up. We spread out the tarp that would be used to worship and eat on. Tawm, Pawn, and I went and hid eggs while the others you see in the picture got together the rest of the games that would be played throughout the day.
#2. Games: The first game we played was Egg hunt. I was so glad that I chose to come early so that I could watch as they searched for the eggs. This game was not only for the children, for the adults liked it just as much.
I played the next game, which was sort of like a relay race that I have played at church camp. We had a bucket at the beginning and end of two groups of people. The object of the game was to pass the bucket full of water at the beginning of the line through your legs to the next person, until it got to the end of the line. The bucket would then be poured into the empty bucket, and you would pass it back to the front of the line. The team that did this the quickest got to answer a Bible question. If answered correctly that team got points.
They also played a game where everyone worked as a team to try to get the egg on top of the bottle and stay balanced (see picture above).#3. Worship time:
I have fun during music time, even though I cannot join in with them. Most of the songs they sing, however, are English songs translated into Thai, so I can still figure out what they are singing! Brent preached about the Resurrection, although I did not know what all he said. I am picking up a little more Thai, but still find it difficult to always figure out what is going on.

#4.Food!!!
Of course, food is essential to any picnic, and if you have the privilege of having one in Thailand, you are sure to have enough to feed an army. While the others ate Thai dishes, we (Uncle Rusty, Aunt Susan, and myself) had ham sandwiches, veggies and dip, fruit salad, chips and deviled eggs! We had one man who asked if he could try a ham sandwich too (he had never had one!!), so he could see what farangs ate. After we were extremely full, the whole group shared some of Aunt Susan's homemade Chocolate Chip cookies...yummy!

#5. Water
Finally came the part that all the kids had been waiting for...water! I decided that I would just wade in the water, since I didn't bring an extra pair of clothes. My clothes did not stay dry for long. After a water with a couple of ladies from the church, I was soaked, and had to ride in the back of the truck on the way home!

Although I was very tired at the end of the day, I would love to do this again next year!
